The Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia, photographed in 1912. Now know as the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University, this building was the first natural science research institution founded not just in the USA, but the Americas. The Academy also has a long tradition of public exhibitions and educational programs for schoolchildren and the general public. Its natural history collections hold a total of over 17.000.000 specimens.
