Johannes Gutenberg, inventor of typography in Europe – 1468.

He was Catholic and at one time even served the archbishop of Mainz, his hometown.

The famous Johannes Gutenberg, an extremely important figure in the development of printing technique in Europe, died on 3 February 1468. Gutenberg was born in Mainz, a city that was an important urban center in the Middle Ages.

Interestingly, Gutenberg was born as early as the 14th century (assumed around 1398, though his exact birth date is unknown). He lived to be about 70 years of age, and he died at a time when the Renaissance was already booming in Italy.

Johannes Gutenberg was a Catholic, and at one time even served as Prince of Elector-Archbishop Mainz.
