She was the third wife of Argentine President Juan Perón and became president after his death. She was not elected to that position, but succeeded him as vice-president of her husband in his last (third) term. Specifically, Perón passed away in 1974, at the age of 79, after a series of heart attacks, and Isabel Perón then automatically became president of Argentina. She was just 36 years younger than her husband, and at the time she became president she was 43 years old.
