First Person to be Cryopreserved with the Goal of Reviving in the Future – 1967

Today, approximately two hundred people are being kept cryopreserved. A popular legend that Walt Disney is cryopreserved is not correct, because he was actually cremated.



On this day, professor James Bedford was frozen a few hours after his official death. His illness was incurable at the time (kidney cancer that spread to the lungs), and the freezing of the body potentially allows its revival in the future, when such disease could be curable.

Cryonics is the science that deals with the freezing of humans or animals and their preservation at low temperatures until new ways of treating their disease are found.
