Osama bin Laden, the leader of the Al Qaeda terrorist organization, was killed on this day in 2011. According to available data, he was killed by American special forces members in Pakistan, in a house where he had been hiding for years. It was a big house near the Pakistani city of Abbottabad, in the northeastern part of the country, some 100 km from the capital, Islamabad. Interestingly, the Pakistani military academy is located only 1.5 km away from the house in which Osama bin Laden was killed.
Osama bin Laden was 54 years old at the moment of his death. After the Americans killed him, his dead body was allegedly buried at sea in the Indian Ocean, less than 24 hours after his death.
