The Pope spent five days in Cuba, where he met Fidel Castro and celebrated Mass on the Revolution Square in Havana.

On this day the Pope Saint John Paul II was in Cuba as a part of his visit to that country. It was not the first time that a pope visited a Communist country (Pope Saint John Paul II previously visited his native Poland in 1979).

The Pope spent five days in Cuba, where he met Fidel Castro and celebrated Mass on the Revolution Square (La Plaza de la Revolución) in Havana. On that occasion the pope appealed to the western countries (implicitly the USA) to end the isolation of Cuba. Just to mention, the visit of the Pope Benedict XVI to Cuba was organized in 2012.
