  • It is interesting to note that Ukraine has been a member of the UN since 1945. In accordance with Soviet demands, Ukraine, Belarus, and the USSR became members of the UN at the same time.

On this day in 1991, Ukraine proclaimed its independence from the USSR.



It was part of the process of disintegration of the Soviet Union, which occurred despite some hard-line leaders of the Communist Party trying to prevent it.

It is interesting to note that Ukraine has been a member of the UN since 1945. In accordance with Soviet demands, Ukraine, Belarus, and the USSR became members of the UN at the same time.

Two days after the proclamation of independence of Ukraine, it was decided to remove monuments of the former communists in Kiev.

Independence Day is celebrated in Ukraine on 24 August (Ukrainian: Day Nezalezhnosti of Ukraine).
