  • What brought suspicion into this case is the fact that the glass needed for Marilyn to take the pills was not found in the room. Also, the autopsy found no trace of capsules in her stomach or the typical discoloration caused by sedatives. There were no puncture marks on the body, so it remains a mystery how the sedatives entered her body.

On this day Marilyn Monroe was found dead in her Brentwood apartment in Los Angeles (rich neighborhood between Santa Monica and Bel Air).

She was found by her psychiatrist Ralph Greenson, who then reported her death to the police. Marilyn was only 36 years old. An autopsy revealed a large amount of sedative chloral hydrate and barbiturates in her blood. The doctor concluded that it was probably suicide.

There were no puncture marks on the body, so it remains a mystery how the sedatives found their way into her body. Many conspiracy theories about the circumstances of her death arose, often involving the Kennedy brothers (John F. Kennedy was president of the United States at the time while his brother Robert was the Minister of Justice).

Marilyn Monroe’s funeral was organized by Joe DiMaggio (her second husband of three). She was interred at Westwood Cemetery in western Los Angeles. She was buried in her favorite green dress by the Italian designer Emilio Pucci. A bouquet of pink roses was placed in her hands.
