His father was also called Barack Hussein Obama, and was a Kenyan Muslim. President Obama’s mother was an American woman named Ann Dunham.
She gave birth to Obama in the Kapi’olani Maternity & Gynecological Hospital in Honolulu, the capital of Hawaii.
Obama’s mother was from Kansas and met his father on Hawaii, while attending Russian language lessons (he was studying at Hawaii as a fellow).
They got married and had a son, but soon divorced. She went to study at Seattle, while he studied at Harvard.
It is interesting that the later President Obama spent a long time living in Hawaii with his maternal grandparents. His mother later married Lolo Soetoro, an Indonesian of Muslim faith, who thus became Obama’s father-in-law.
