American actor Bruce Willis was born in West Germany on this day in 1955.



Namely, his father was an American soldier who was living in Germany at the time, while Bruce’s mother was German. Thus it happened that Bruce Willis was born in the village of Idar-Oberstein in the German province of Rheinland-Pfalz.

This village is located roughly half-way between Worms and Trier, and is known for its precious stones. Namely, the German Diamond and Precious Stones Exchange (German: Deutsche Diamant- und Edelsteinbörse) is located precisely in Idar-Oberstein.

Bruce’s father arrived in the USA already in 1957, when his son was only about 2 years old. It is interesting that, in his youth, Bruce Willis even worked as a security guard in a nuclear power plant, a waiter, and a private investigator.

Bruce Willis’s first great acting success was the role of a private investigator in the TV series Moonlighting. He was selected for this role from among as many as 3,000 candidates. His first leading role was in the comedy Blind Date, with Kim Basinger.
