This day in 1945 marked the marriage of Juan and Evita (Eva) Peron. She was over 23 years younger than him. The couple had met only one year ago in Buenos Aires, when he was a colonel in the army. Peron was already widowed at the time – his first wife, Aurelia Tizón, had died back in 1938, when she was only 29 years old. Aurelia spent nine years in marriage to Juan, and died of cancer.

At the time they were married, Evita was almost half Juan’s age; he was 50, while she was just a few months over 26. Juan Peron became the President of Argentina the very next year, largely thanks to his wife’s assistance for his election campaign.
