On this day Briton Hugh Gray took first known photos of the Loch Ness Monster. He was walking home from church that day carrying a small camera. He saw a large creature in the water, rising almost a meter above the surface. It had a smooth and radiant gray skin. He quickly took five photos, but four failed to develop properly. Only one photo remained (picture above), which shows a being of an unusual shape on the water surface. It is the first pictorial evidence of the existence of the monster popularly called Nessie.
