On this day Jesus Garcia gave his life to save the Mexican city of Nacozari from an exploding train full of dynamite. That day, namely, the train stopped at the station in the mining town of Nacozari in northern Mexico. Jesús García was railroad brakeman on the train and noticed that the roof of a wagon full of dynamite had caught fire, which was caused by sparks that spread from the locomotive. He started the train and drove it full speed away from the town. When he was six kilometers out of Nacozari, the train exploded and killed him, but the town was saved. Jesus Garcia is celebrated as a hero throughout Mexico. Many schools, streets and squares are named after him. The town of Nacozari was renamed to Nacozari de García.
