The mother of Sultan Ahmed II was born as a Polish Jew. She was allegedly born under the name Eva, but her name was changed after converting to Islam.
On this day Sultan Ahmed II was born in a palace in Istanbul. He became the 21st ruler of the Ottoman Empire, but his reign began only when he was 48 years old, after the death of his older brother Suleiman II.
Interestingly, the mother of Sultan Ahmed II was born as a Polish Jew. She was allegedly born under the name Eva, but after converting to Islam she was given the name Hatice (Khadija) Mu’azzez. She did not live to see her son coming to the throne, because she died four years before his reign started. So, she never became Valide Sultan (“the queen mother”).
Sultan Ahmed II had a grand vizier from the famous Köprülü family. This grand vizier’s name was Fazıl Mustafa Köprülü, and was the son of the famous Köprülü Mehmed Pasha. However, the Grand Vizier Mustafa Fazıl Köprülü died in the terrible defeat that the Ottoman army suffered in the Battle of Slankamen. Sultan Ahmed II died before reaching the age of 52 and was succeeded by his nephew, Mustafa II.
