  • Morrison was found dead in a Paris apartment bathtub on this day by his girlfriend Pamela Courson. It seems that Morrison died of an overdose from Pamela’s heroin, which he snorted thinking that it was cocaine.

On this day the famous lead singer of “The Doors”, Jim Morrison, died at only 27 years of age, joining the famous “27 Club”, which consists of the famous musicians who died at that age (at the age of 27 also died Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Kurt Cobain, Amy Winehouse and Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones).

Jim Morrison was an intelligent child, the son of the American Admiral George Stephen Morrison, commander of American naval forces in the Gulf of Tonkin during the Vietnam War.

It is interesting that Jim Morrison graduated film school within the Theater Arts department at the prestigious University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA). Jim experienced success in music after graduation with his group “The Doors” named after a novel by Aldous Huxley “The Doors of Perception”.

On this day Morrison was found dead in his Paris apartment, where he lived with his girlfriend Pamela Courson. It was precisely she who found him dead in the bathtub. The coroner announced the cause of death was a heart attack, but no autopsy was performed, so that question remains open.

There are assumptions that Morrison died of an overdose of Pamela’s heroin, which he allegedly snorted by mistake thinking that it was cocaine. Pamela died less than 3 years later of a heroin overdose. At the time of death, she was also 27 years old.

Jim was buried in the famous Père Lachaise Cemetery in Paris (which is named after Father de la Chaise, confessor of King Louis XV), where probably more celebrities are buried than on any other cemetery in the world (Marcel Proust, Frederic Chopin, Oscar Wilde, Honoré de Balzac, Moliere, Isadora Duncan, and many others are buried there).
