Berniece Baker, the half-sister of actress Marilyn Monroe was born on this day in 1919.

They had the same mother, whose name was Gladys Pearl Baker (née Monroe).

The mother got the first-mentioned daughter Berniece Baker during her first marriage, and only later gave birth to Marilyn Monroe (Marilyn Monroe’s birth name was Norma Jeane Mortenson. i.e. Norma Jeane Baker).

It is interesting that Marilyn Monroe learned of the existence of her half-sister only when she was 19 years old.

The first time they met was in 1944.

Berniece Baker was almost seven years older than Marilyn Monroe and had one daughter – Mona Rae – together with which she, after the death of Marilyn Monroe, published the book titled My Sister Marilyn.
