The tallest tower in the world was opened to public on this day in 2012. It is Tokyo Skytree, and is 634 meters tall, about two times taller than the Eiffel Tower (the latter is 324 meters tall, including antenna, but was originally only 312 meters). Although Tokyo Skytree is the tallest tower in the world, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai is the tallest man-made structure in the world (about 200 meters taller than Tokyo Skytree).

It has two viewing platforms – a lower one at 350 meters (with capacity to accommodate about 2000 people), and a higher one at 450 meters (with capacity to accommodate about 900 people). There are many earthquakes in Japan, and the tower is seismically secured. It is interesting that the ground plan of the tower has the shape of a triangle.
