The Olsen Twins are today classified among the richest persons in show business. They were born on this day, in 1986, in Sherman Oaks near Los Angeles.
Interestingly enough, Mary-Kate and Ashley are not identical twins, even though they are very similar in appearance.
They began their television career at the age of only nine months, performing in the comedy series “Full House”. They portrayed little Michelle Tanner, taking turns playing the role.
Specifically, child labor laws strictly limit the working hours of children, so the problem was solved by dividing working time between the two of them. The series was filmed through eight years and they played their role until its end.
While still shooting the series, they already began acting in films. When they were six years old, their manager and lawyer, Robert Thorne, established a company named Dualstar in their name.
This company started producing their films, and achieved a great success by starting a line of children’s clothing. Annual revenues of Dualstar soon surpassed one billion dollars. The twins soon found themselves on the Forbes list of the richest people under the age of 40.
When they came of age, they bought Thorne’s share of the company and hired a new manager, Diane Reichenberger.
They expanded the range of products to perfumes and furniture. Their products are sold in approximately 3,000 stores in the United States and more than 5,300 worldwide.
