Cristiano Ronaldo’s birth name was Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro. Therefore, both “Cristiano” and “Ronaldo” are his first names, while Aveiro is his surname.



 

Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo was born on this day on the island of Madeira in the Atlantic. The island belongs to Portugal today, and is actually located closer to Africa than Europe, being as much as 850 km away from the Portuguese coast. The island of Madeira has a land area of 801 square kilometers, slightly larger than Bahrain or Singapore. Cristiano Ronaldo’s birth name was Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro. Therefore, both “Cristiano” and “Ronaldo” are his first names, while Aveiro is his surname. It is interesting that Ronaldo was allegedly named after U.S. president Ronald Reagan. Namely, Ronaldo’s father allegedly held that American actor and politician in high regard. In addition, Cristiano was born only 16 days after Reagan was sworn into office at his second inauguration.
