On this day, in 1962, Nazi criminal Adolf Eichmann was executed in Israel. 



His arrest in Argentina and his covert transfer to Israel for trial was an event of international importance. Eichmann’s trial in Jerusalem received particular media coverage. During his stay in the courtroom, he was inside the bulletproof glass.

The tribunal found Eichmann guilty and sentenced him to death. The execution was carried out at a prison in Ramla, a dozen kilometers from Tel Aviv.

Eichmann allegedly refused his last meal and took a bottle of wine instead. He refused to wear the black hood. He was hanged on this day just before midnight. Shortly after the execution, his body was cremated, and his ashes were scattered in international waters in the Mediterranean Sea by an Israeli ship.
