  • The Albanian King Zog I was deposed during the Italian invasion of this country in 1939. He died in the Paris suburb of Suresnes on this day in 1961.

The former King Zog I of Albania died on this day in 1961. Interestingly, he didn`t die in Albania, but near Paris in France.

Zog I was deposed in Albania during the Italian invasion of that country (the Italians invaded Albania in 1939). He took the gold reserves and fled the country with his wife (a Hungarian countess) during the invasion.

Zog I died in Suresnes on this day in 1961. Suresnes is a small town which is actually one of the suburbs of Paris. It is located not far from the famous Bois de Boulogne, about 9 kilometers from the center of Paris.

It is interesting to note that Zog I was buried in France, but his remains were transferred to Albania in 2012.
