Churchill`s health was poor at the time of his resignation, but he lived for ten more years, and died at the age of 90.



Winston Churchill resigned as British Prime Minster on this day in 1955. He was 80 years old at the time, and held the position of Prime Minister for eight years and 239 days. Sir Anthony Eden succeeded him in office after his resignation. Churchill`s health was poor at the time of his resignation, but he lived for ten more years, and died at the age of 90.

Churchill was the Prime Minister for two separate mandates. He first became prime minister when he was 65 years old. However, he held many influential positions during his youth. For example, he had become a member of the British government (cabinet) as a President of the Board of Trade in 1908. Previously, his function was known as the First Lord of Trade. Churchill was a Member of Parliament for 63 years.
