Kim Jong-il had a collection of 20,000 Hollywood movies. He especially loved the movies Friday the 13th, Godzilla, and Rambo, and any movie starring Elizabeth Taylor. He had many specific requests.

On this day in North Korea the birthday of dictator Kim Jong-il was celebrated. He was born during the World War II, fathered by Kim Il-Sung, a communist fighter against the Japanese occupiers of Korea. When his father became a dictator (“Great Leader”), Kim Jong-il was given the title “Dear Leader” and was considered a kind of an heir. Simultaneously with the creation of his father’s personality cult, a similar cult was made for him. He was appointed the Supreme Commander of the Korean People’s Army, the fourth-largest standing army in the world, although he had done no military service.

When his father died, Kim Jong-il assumed power and received the title “Eternal President of the Republic”. Apparently, he was afraid of flying, so he traveled on his foreign visits to Russia in an armored train. On such occasions, live lobsters were flown in from Korea every day for him, because he was afraid to eat foreign food. He apparently loved movies, especially Friday the 13th, Godzilla, and Rambo, and any movie starring Elizabeth Taylor. He had a collection of 20,000 Hollywood movies. He was also obsessed with Elvis Presley. Kim died in 2011 at the age of 70.
