Tina Turner was born on this day in 1939. She was born in the American South, in Tennessee, named Anna Mae Bullock. She is of African-American, European, and Native American descent (Navajo and Cherokee Indians). Her father was a Baptist deacon. Anna Mae Bullock married rhythm and blues singer Ike Turner, who changed her name to Tina Turner. During more than 50 years of her singing career, more tickets were sold for her concerts than for any other solo artist in history. She was raised as a Baptist, but later became a Buddhist.
