Leonardo was born in Milan and is one of a series of Italian billionaires of similar age and heritage. Other billionaires of his generation from northern Italy include Giorgio Armani (born in 1934 in Piacenza, some 50 km from Milan) and Silvio Berlusconi (born in Milan in 1936).
