The Mormons are today a significant religious community of about 14 million members, and their center is in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The Mormon Church is officially called the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The founder, Joseph Smith, claimed that he translated the Book of Mormon from golden plates revealed to him by the Angel Moroni, which were buried for over 1,400 years in a hill in the State of New York.

These plates, written in a reformed Egyptian script, were, according to Mormon belief, buried by the people that God brought to America from Jerusalem before Jesus’s birth.
